MTN Ghana has announced a GH¢2.5 million relief package to support families and individuals affected by the recent floods in parts of Accra.

The intervention, to be carried out in partnership with the Multimedia Group and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), is aimed at providing immediate humanitarian assistance to victims whose homes and livelihoods were devastated by the floods.

The relief package includes essential household items such as student mattresses, blankets, mosquito coils and repellents, as well as food supplies including rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned mackerel, sugar, spaghetti and oats.

Beneficiaries will also receive detergents and toiletries to help maintain hygiene while living in temporary shelters. Distribution of the items will be coordinated by NADMO to ensure assistance reaches the hardest-hit communities.

Commenting on the initiative, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett expressed sympathy for families affected by the disaster and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting communities during difficult times.

“We are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the flooding. Many families have lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of normal life,” he said.

“At MTN, we believe in standing with our communities, especially in difficult times. This support is our way of showing care, bringing some comfort, and reminding affected families that they are not alone as they begin the journey to rebuild.”

The recent heavy rains triggered widespread flooding across several communities in Accra, displacing residents and leaving many households in urgent need of food, shelter and other basic necessities.

MTN Ghana said the donation is intended to complement ongoing national relief efforts and provide timely assistance to affected families.

Working alongside the Multimedia Group and NADMO, the telecommunications company said it is committed to ensuring that the relief items are delivered efficiently to those most in need.

The company expressed hope that the intervention would provide comfort and support to victims as they begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of the disaster.
