The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced plans to begin registering minors between the ages of 6 and 14 for the Ghana Card, starting October 7, 2024.

This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ensure every citizen is included in the national identification system.

The first phase of the registration will take place in schools across selected districts to simplify access for eligible children. By targeting schools, the NIA hopes to make the process more convenient for parents and guardians.

Alfred Gazari, Deputy Director of Operations at the NIA, stressed the importance of this registration drive, noting that integrating children into the national database is crucial to achieving comprehensive identification coverage for all Ghanaians.

“We’ve already registered those over 15 and begun with children aged zero to five. This final phase is critical to ensuring that every Ghanaian, both in and outside the country, is captured in the system,” Gazari told Citi News monitored by TechFocus24.

He further emphasised that having the Ghana Card is essential, as it has become the gateway to accessing many services and opportunities in the country.
