In celebration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, the MTN Ghana Foundation, in collaboration with the Martha Inspires Foundation, hosted an inspiring event in Tamale aimed at empowering young girls to envision and shape a brighter future.

Held in the Northern regional capital, the event brought together girls from the community to explore essential topics such as leadership, creativity, and online safety.

Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, spearheaded the discussions, encouraging the girls to dream big and work hard toward their goals.

“You have the power to become anything you aspire to in life. When you dream big and commit wholeheartedly to your goals, nothing and no one can stand in your way,” Fiagbenu told the attendees.

A key focus of the event was educating the girls and their parents on safe practices in the digital space.

Fiagbenu led a session on online safety, providing tips on digital parenting and online protection for girls.

She emphasised the need for caution in the digital age, highlighting the internet’s dual role as a platform for positive change and a potential threat.

“In today’s digital age, exercising caution online is more crucial than ever. While the internet serves as a powerful platform for social change and connection, it can also be a complex and potentially dangerous space, especially for young, unsuspecting girls, if proper safety measures are not taken,” Fiagbenu said.

In a related mentorship summit organised by the Ghana Education Service, MTN Senior Managers Maame Ekua Ofori and Louisa Ama Sosu addressed the importance of role models in shaping the academic and professional aspirations of girls.

They underscored the need for visible female leadership to inspire girls in their communities to pursue higher education and career opportunities.

The MTN Ghana Foundation remains dedicated to empowering young girls through initiatives that promote education, safety, and confidence, positioning them as future leaders who can drive socio-economic progress in their communities.
