MTN Group has unveiled a series of leadership changes, including the departure of Frédéric Schepens, CEO of its infrastructure subsidiary, Bayobab.

Frédéric Schepens’ exit is “effective immediately,” with MTN thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavours.

The announced changes are part of MTN’s broader strategy to position itself for growth across Africa. Key appointments include:

  • Wanda Matandela will assume the role of CEO of MTN Cameroon, effective 1 March 2025. Matandela, currently MTN South Africa’s Chief Commercial Operations Officer, brings extensive experience to his new position.
  • Mitwa Ng’ambi, the current CEO of MTN Cameroon, will take over as CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire on the same date, following the early retirement of Djibril Ouattara. Ng’ambi previously served as CEO of MTN Rwanda.
  • Mazen Mroue, MTN Group’s Chief Technology and Information Officer, will take on additional responsibilities as CEO of the digital infrastructure business. This expanded role will oversee the mobility and fibre operations of Bayobab while spearheading MTN’s data centre strategy to drive AI development across Africa.

The changes reflect MTN’s commitment to strengthening its leadership across its markets and aligning with its vision of sustainable growth and digital innovation.
