Senior technical executives from Anthropic are in Washington for discussions with White House officials in an effort to resolve a dispute that has resulted in the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence models being taken offline, according to a report by Axios citing a source familiar with the matter.
Neither Anthropic nor the White House immediately responded to requests for comment.
The report said Anthropic’s technical team has also been holding virtual meetings with White House representatives since the administration first made contact.
According to the company, the Trump administration instructed Anthropic to prevent all foreign nationals, both within and outside the United States, from accessing its latest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. In response, Anthropic opted to suspend access to the models globally.
The San Francisco-based AI firm, which has confidentially filed for a US initial public offering, had previously expressed concerns about the potential cyber capabilities of its Mythos model and had limited its release.
Anthropic launched a public version known as Fable, which the company said incorporated a range of cybersecurity safeguards designed to reduce misuse.
