Senior technical executives from Anthropic are in Washington for discussions with White House officials in an effort to resolve a dispute that has resulted in the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence models being taken offline, according to a report by Axios citing a source familiar with the matter.

‎Neither Anthropic nor the White House immediately responded to requests for comment.

‎‎The report said Anthropic’s technical team has also been holding virtual meetings with White House representatives since the administration first made contact.

‎‎According to the company, the Trump administration instructed Anthropic to prevent all foreign nationals, both within and outside the United States, from accessing its latest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. In response, Anthropic opted to suspend access to the models globally.

‎‎The San Francisco-based AI firm, which has confidentially filed for a US initial public offering, had previously expressed concerns about the potential cyber capabilities of its Mythos model and had limited its release.

‎Anthropic launched a public version known as Fable, which the company said incorporated a range of cybersecurity safeguards designed to reduce misuse.
