The Acting Director of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Nana Amoah-Yeboah, has stressed the need for Ghana to invest in digital skills alongside infrastructure as the country accelerates its digital transformation agenda.

According to him, digital transformation is ultimately about people, and Ghana’s investment in technology will have limited impact if citizens do not possess the skills and capabilities required to build, manage and use digital systems effectively.

Nana Amoah-Yeboah made the remarks during the 2026 National ICT Week celebration, held under the theme “Innovation at Scale, Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem”.

“We must invest not only in infrastructure and systems but also in the skills and capabilities of the people who will build, manage and use them,” he said.

She said Ghana had already demonstrated its ability to innovate, but the country must now focus on translating innovations into practical solutions that create opportunities and measurable national value.

Nana Amoah-Yeboah said achieving Ghana’s digital ambitions requires contributions from all stakeholders within the ecosystem.

He said government must provide leadership, while the private sector should continue to invest and innovate. Academia, she added, must contribute knowledge and research to support the development of practical digital solutions.

He urged all stakeholders to work together to move ideas from innovation to implementation and ultimately to scale.

According to him, National ICT Week provides an important platform for government, industry, academia, innovators, investors and development partners to exchange knowledge, build partnerships and identify practical solutions to national challenges.

Nana Amoah-Yeboah said NITA remains committed to providing the technical and institutional foundations needed to support Ghana’s digital transformation.

He highlighted the agency’s work in technical direction, ICT standards, coordination, interoperability and shared digital infrastructure.

He disclosed that more than 600 government institutions and assemblies had been onboarded onto the Smart Workplace, while NITA was also advancing the Ghana Electronic Documents Wallet ecosystem.

The agency is also working on a regulatory framework for data centre and cloud services to strengthen security, reliability and accountability.

He further said NITA was working to develop Ghana.gov into a more integrated gateway for citizens to conveniently access government information and digital public services.

The Acting Director said NITA would continue to strengthen interoperability, cybersecurity, data security and system resilience as Ghana adopts emerging technologies.

These include artificial intelligence, cloud computing and advanced data analytics.

He, however, stressed that such technologies must be adopted responsibly and within an ecosystem capable of protecting systems and the people who use them.

Nana Amoah-Yeboah called on participants at the National ICT Week celebration to use the event to learn, collaborate, innovate and take action.

He reaffirmed NITA’s commitment to supporting a coordinated, secure and sustainable public sector digital environment and expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, the NITA Board and the agency’s partners for their continued support.
