KNL lands third Nordic deal for military HF communications

Telenor subsidiary KNL has secured an outline deal with Denmark’s Ministry of Defence to supply its high-frequency (HF) radio equipment, marking its third agreement with a Nordic country.

‎The deal follows agreements with Sweden and Finland and strengthens KNL’s push to establish its HF communication system across the Nordic region.

‎Dan Ouchterlony, head of Telenor Corporate Development Portfolio, said the agreements with Sweden and Finland had created a “strong foundation for Nordic cooperation” around KNL’s radio system.

‎‎He said Denmark’s addition reflects a “genuine and growing need for secure, independent communication across the region”.

‎‎KNL’s HF system operates in the 3MHz to 30MHz range and is designed to support military communications beyond the line of sight while remaining resilient to jamming and other electromagnetic interference.

‎‎The technology can provide communication across thousands of kilometres without relying on fixed or satellite connectivity, which KNL says makes it valuable for military, maritime and other critical communications.

‎‎The system also uses cognitive radio functionality to dynamically allocate frequencies and improve spectrum use.

‎KNL chief executive Toni Linden described Denmark’s participation as a “strong endorsement” of the company’s technology.

‎‎The company has publicly announced three orders worth about €23.5 million under its existing arrangements with Sweden and Finland.

‎‎KNL is also among several companies approved to bid for tactical communications system projects in the UK.
