'Porous Borders' bribing

Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched investigations into allegations that some Customs officers at various borders have been taking bribes and allowing traders to smuggle goods from neighbouring countries into Ghana.

This follows a documentary by Joy News dubbed “Porous Borders,” showing videos of persons purported to be staff of the Customs Division taking bribes and allowing traders to smuggles good into the country.

A statement from GRA said an investigation team has been formed to critically examine the documentary and with the view to ascertain three things:

  • Identify staff who are involved in the alleged acts of bribery in the documentary
  • Investigate the specific incidents of alleged bribery; and
  • Assess any security vulnerabilities at the border points highlighted.
