MTN Nigeria Communications PLC (MTN Nigeria) has officially renewed its spectrum lease agreement with Natcom Development and Investment Limited (NTEL) following approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The renewal marks the continuation of a partnership established in 2023 and reinforces MTN Nigeria’s commitment to improving network coverage and user experience across the country.

The renewed agreement includes a two-year extension, effective May 1, 2025, for leasing NTEL’s 5 MHz Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) in the 900 MHz band and 10 MHz FDD in the 1800 MHz band, covering 19 states.

A one-year lease expansion, effective January 1, 2025, has been approved for the same spectrums in the remaining 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The lease agreement allows MTN Nigeria to enhance its 3G and 4G services by improving network coverage and capacity.

This initiative aims to address the growing demand for data while ensuring a seamless and reliable user experience.

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, expressed his satisfaction with the renewal:

“We are pleased with the renewal of the spectrum lease agreement with NTEL, which now includes coverage for all states, including the FCT. This agreement strengthens our ability to improve the user experience and expand connectivity across the nation.”

Toriola highlighted that the deal positions MTN Nigeria to capitalise on increasing data demand while improving service delivery to customers.

In the second quarter of 2023, MTN Nigeria entered the initial spectrum lease agreement with NTEL to boost connectivity in 19 states. The deal involved a total investment of $5.5 million, covering taxes, regulatory fees, and auxiliary charges.

In addition to this investment, MTN Nigeria acquired a 2.6 GHz spectrum in September 2023, approved by the NCC, to enhance network performance and expand capacity further.

These strategic moves underscore the company’s dedication to delivering faster, more reliable services to its customers.

This renewal reflects MTN Nigeria’s focus on digital transformation and inclusion. By leveraging advanced spectrums, the company aims to strengthen its position as a leading telecom provider in Nigeria, bridging the digital divide and contributing to national development.

As the lease agreement extends into 2025, MTN Nigeria remains committed to its mission of offering innovative solutions and exceptional service across the country.
