NOVA, a Ghanaian oil marketing company and subsidiary of the CH Group, has taken steps to promote sustainable energy by donating clean cooking stoves to local food businesses in Weta, Volta Region.
This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and encourage eco-friendly cooking practices across Ghana, with plans to extend the program to other NOVA fuel stations nationwide.
At the donation event held at the NOVA fuel station in Weta, located at the Weta-Afiadenyigba Junction on the Accra-Aflao Road, NOVA’s Managing Director, Kwasi Zigah, emphasised the company’s commitment to green energy.
“We are here to support Ghana’s vision for carbon neutrality by 2024,” Zigah said. “Charcoal, widely used for cooking, is highly carbon-intensive. By providing clean cooking stoves to commercial food operators, we are helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also empowering local businesses.”
Zigah added that NOVA’s initiative aligns with the government’s goal to ensure that 50% of Ghanaian households have access to clean cooking energy by 2030. He further encouraged Ghanaians to make the switch to cleaner fuel sources by highlighting NOVA’s cylinder exchange program: “If you bring in your old cylinder, we’ll exchange it for a new one filled with gas. You only pay for the gas, not the cylinder. We can also deliver gas directly to your doorstep within minutes.”
In addition to their green energy initiatives, Zigah promoted NOVA’s quality fuel offerings, explaining how the company leverages its CH Group affiliation to ensure competitive pricing.
“We are part of a larger network responsible for importing, storing, and transporting fuel in Ghana, allowing us to offer high-quality fuel at some of the best prices on the market,” he noted, inviting customers to experience NOVA fuel’s quality for themselves.
Local beneficiaries of the clean cooking stoves expressed appreciation for NOVA’s support. Ms. Mary Poasiegah, speaking on behalf of the commercial food vendors, said, “We are truly grateful to NOVA. Clean cooking stoves are expensive, but NOVA has generously provided them to us at no cost. This is a big relief, and we’re very thankful.”
NOVA, also known as Westol Petroleum Limited, currently operates ten fuel stations across Ghana in locations such as Anyaa, Ayanfuri, Nsawam, Shama, Ashaiman, Anaji, Bogoso, Adjinriganor, and Takoradi Nsuaem. Through its clean energy efforts, NOVA aims to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s environmental goals while supporting local businesses in a sustainable way.
