Showmax, the MultiChoice Group-owned streaming platform, is set to test the live-streaming capabilities of its new Peacock-powered platform with the highly anticipated live performance of Amapiano star Tyla on January 18.
The concert, which will take place at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, is expected to draw significant attention as it marks Showmax’s first live-streamed entertainment event.
Tyla, who recently won a Grammy award, will perform her hits for fans across Africa and the world, with Showmax providing exclusive access to the event. This live stream is a significant milestone for the streaming platform, which aims to offer more than just on-demand content. The broadcast of the concert showcases Showmax’s ambition to expand its services, integrating live streaming with its traditional streaming offerings.
In a statement, Showmax’s Chief Marketing Officer, Yatish Narsi, expressed the company’s commitment to becoming a global leader in streaming. “Showmax doesn’t just aim to be the best in Africa; we aim to take our place among the best in the world,” Narsi said, highlighting the importance of the live-stream event for the platform’s future.
Showmax, relaunched a year ago in partnership with US-based NBCUniversal, is utilising the same streaming technology that NBCUniversal used to launch the Peacock platform in the US.
This partnership allows Showmax to leverage cutting-edge technology, improving its service delivery for live-streamed content.
The livestream of Tyla’s performance will be a pivotal moment for Showmax as it seeks to expand its reach beyond Africa and compete with other global streaming giants in the ever-growing entertainment industry. Fans can expect an exciting, high-quality broadcast that aims to showcase Showmax’s growing capabilities in live entertainment streaming.
