The Chief Partnership Officer at the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, Dr Ishmael Nii Amanor Dodoo, has said Ghana’s unemployment rate is on a downward trajectory, although he could not provide the exact number of jobs created under the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Dr Dodoo said the Secretariat was unable to state the precise number of jobs generated since the implementation of the policy.
”I can’t give you the exact number of jobs created under the policy, but I can confidently say that the unemployment rate is trending downward,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing public interest in the impact of the government’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative, which is expected to stimulate production, boost productivity and create employment opportunities by encouraging businesses and public institutions to operate in shifts around the clock.
While acknowledging the absence of specific employment figures, Dr Dodoo maintained that available indicators point to an improving labour market, suggesting that the policy is contributing to a reduction in unemployment.
The 24-Hour Economy Secretariat has consistently argued that the initiative is designed to unlock economic growth, attract investment and expand employment across key sectors of the economy.
Dr Dodoo’s comments are likely to intensify calls for the Secretariat to publish comprehensive data on jobs created under the policy as stakeholders continue to assess its effectiveness and long-term impact on Ghana’s economy.
