Google is reportedly advancing AI technology to take web browsing to the next level, developing an assistant that can autonomously conduct research, make purchases, and carry out other online tasks.
Known internally as “Project Jarvis,” the tool could debut as early as December, powered by Google’s anticipated Gemini large language model, according to a report from *The Information*.
This new development signals Google’s ambition to redefine the AI assistant experience, expanding beyond voice commands and static responses. Project Jarvis would enable AI to actively browse, analyse, and complete tasks without direct user intervention—a capability that could reshape e-commerce, research, and productivity applications.
Google’s move comes amid a competitive race with OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, which also envisions a similar agent-driven model. OpenAI aims to use a “Computer-Using Agent” (CUA) to allow AI models to explore and act online independently. Google’s Project Jarvis and OpenAI’s CUA highlight a growing push among tech giants to create AI that doesn’t just answer questions but initiates and completes complex actions for users.
While Google has not officially commented, Project Jarvis suggests a future where AI assistants could take on a far more active and independent role in digital tasks—paving the way for a transformative browsing experience
