Reliable sources within the mining sector have hinted Techfocus24 that the recent past CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Adem Ashigbey is heading to the Ghana Chamber of Mines as the new CEO.
The information, although unconfirmed, does not come as a surprise to many because Dr. Ashigbey has been at the forefront of the anti-galamsey (illegal mining) fight for several years, in his other capacity as the Convenor of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey.
The work of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, as espoused in its mission and core values, is mainly to drive responsible mining through honesty, transparency, good governance, good corporate citizenship, commitment and unity among mining companies in Ghana.
Its mission is to represent the Mining Industry in Ghana using the resources and capabilities of its members to deliver services that address members, government and community needs, in order to enhance development.
These are values that Dr. Ashigbey has already been championing as the lead advocate at the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, in addition to his advocacy work at the Telecoms and Digital chambers.
His work at the Media Coalition has also been a major contribution to exposing galamsey activities in a much bigger way, leading to the arrest, prosecution and jailing of several persons involved in the menace.
One executive in the mining sector, who pleaded anonymity, said the industry is happy that Dr. Ashigbey will be their lead advocate because he has been a champion of responsible mining for several years and that is the kind of passion needed to rid the industry of the galamsey menace and ensure value for Ghana, mining communities and industry players.
