Government, in a move to decentralise passport services and enhance citizen access, has opened a new passport application centre in Techiman in the Bono East Region.
James Gyakye Quayson, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, who officially opened the facility on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, said the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to providing effective, transparent, and citizen-focused public services.

The Deputy Minister said the Ministry is introducing key innovations to improve the passport application process, adding that the changes are intended to lessen the involvement of intermediaries, improve openness, and rebuild public trust in the passport application procedure.
Eight selected individuals who applied through the Techiman centre were presented with their passports as part of the ceremony.
The center’s commissioning, according to Bono East Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi, is a clear example of President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to bringing vital public services closer to the people.
The celebration was presided over by Nana Boakye Ameyaw Pentenprem II, the Nifahene and Aduanahene of Techiman, who praised the government for opening a passport office in the area.
He pointed out that there is a direct correlation between economic growth and mobility, and saying that the new facility will remove the high travel expenses that locals had to pay in order to obtain passport services outside of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the Bono East Parliamentary Caucus, Dominic Napare, the Member of Parliament for Sene East, also commended the administration for advancing equity in the provision of public services throughout the nation.
District Chief Executives, the Regional Coordinating Director, Regional Directors of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Youth Employment Agency, Municipal Coordinating Directors, heads of security agencies, and religious and traditional leaders all attended the ceremony.
