The Bank of Ghana has lauded Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC for its longstanding contribution to the country’s financial sector and economic development as the institution marked its 130th anniversary.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, at the bank’s 130th Anniversary Dinner in Accra, the Second Deputy Governor, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, congratulated Standard Chartered Ghana on reaching the significant milestone.
In a statement delivered during the event, Dr Asiama described the bank’s 130-year journey as “a story of vision, resilience, innovation, and trust”, noting that its enduring presence in Ghana reflects a strong commitment to supporting national development and the growth of the banking industry.
The Governor commended Standard Chartered Bank Ghana for its role in shaping the country’s financial landscape and contributing to economic progress over more than a century of operations.
He also highlighted the improving state of Ghana’s economy, pointing to positive macroeconomic indicators that are creating a favourable environment for businesses and investors.
According to the Governor, inflation remains low and well anchored, while investor confidence has strengthened considerably. He further noted that the relative stability of the Ghana cedi is helping to create conditions for stronger economic growth and renewed investment opportunities across various sectors of the economy.
Dr Asiama encouraged Standard Chartered Bank Ghana to continue playing a leading role in the country’s development by expanding access to finance and supporting innovation-driven growth.
He urged the bank to deepen its support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which remain critical to job creation and economic transformation, while also leveraging emerging opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Governor stressed that the banking sector has a vital role to play in unlocking the full potential of Ghana’s economy and fostering inclusive growth through increased financial inclusion and strategic investments.
“As you mark 130 years of excellence, may you draw inspiration from your proud history, confidence from your achievements, and courage from the opportunities that lie ahead,” Dr Asiama said in his closing remarks.
The anniversary celebration brought together key stakeholders from the banking industry, government, the business community and development partners to honour Standard Chartered Ghana’s legacy and its contributions to the country’s economic advancement over the past 130 years.
