Ghana has secured the right to host the 70th session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, marking a major milestone for the country’s tourism sector and international standing.

‎‎The successful bid was announced following Ghana’s presentation to member states, with the government describing the outcome as a significant achievement that will coincide with the country’s 70th Independence anniversary.

‎Speaking during the bid presentation, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla Dzifa Gomashie said Ghana’s decision to host the continental gathering reflects its commitment to promoting tourism as a driver of sustainable development, economic transformation, cultural exchange and African integration.

‎‎The minister noted that 2027 would be a historic year, as the 70th session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa will coincide with Ghana’s 70th year of independence, providing what was described as a unique opportunity to celebrate two important milestones for the country and the continent.

‎Ghana pledged to offer delegates an opportunity to experience its cultural heritage through festivals, music, dance, cuisine, traditional craftsmanship and other tourism attractions, while showcasing its creative arts industry and peaceful democratic environment.

‎‎The government said the event would bring together policymakers, tourism professionals, investors, creatives and private sector stakeholders to assess Africa’s tourism progress and discuss strategies for future growth.

‎The minister also said Ghana would use the occasion to strengthen cooperation among African member states and highlight tourism’s role in promoting inclusive economic growth, job creation, community empowerment and the preservation of cultural heritage.

‎In addition, Ghana intends to use the gathering to express appreciation for African countries’ support for President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts towards the United Nations’ recognition of slavery as the worst form of crime against humanity.

‎‎The government assured member states that Ghana has the infrastructure, security, hospitality and organisational capacity required to successfully host the landmark event.

‎‎Concluding the presentation, the minister invited all African member states to support Ghana’s vision and experience the country’s culture and hospitality during the historic 2027 gathering.
