MTN Ghana has secured the two available lots in the 700 MHz spectrum band for $100.9 million, emerging as the successful applicant in the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) 5G latest spectrum assignment process.
The NCA said MTN Ghana was the sole qualified applicant for the 700 MHz band and applied two of the three available lots.
The process was concluded after the Authority opened and ranked the Best Price Offers submitted by applicants on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The spectrum assignment covers mobile broadband services, including 5G.
The NCA said the 2.3 GHz band was under-subscribed, with two lots still remaining available after three lots were bidded for.
Techfocus24 has gathered that Telecel Ghana has secured the three lots in the 2.3GHz band.
The 3 GHz band, however, was over-subscribed, with four lots applied for against three available. MTN applied for one of that but the results are yet to be determined.
The Authority said the next stage for the 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands would proceed in accordance with the Request for Applications (RFA).
It will announce the final outcome for the two bands after the remaining steps in the licensing process have been completed.
Successful applicants for the 2.3 GHz and 3 GHz bands will also be notified separately.
