Apple has asked its suppliers to increase production and raise orders for its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, by 30 per cent following strong demand after its global launch, Taiwan’s Economic Daily has reported.

‎‎The initial stock of the device was insufficient to meet demand, with the phone selling out almost immediately after going on sale. A second wave of shipments is expected to begin on 22 January, according to the report, which cited industry insiders.

‎Apple initially estimated that shipments of the iPhone Duo would reach about six million units this year. However, the latest estimates have risen to between eight million and 10 million units, with shipments projected to reach 33 million units by 2027.

‎‎The device’s launch was characterised by strong demand and limited supplies, with sales largely restricted to pre-orders.

‎‎The iPhone Duo is assembled by Foxconn, while its core processor is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the Economic Daily reported.

‎‎The foldable smartphone is priced significantly higher than comparable devices offered by Apple’s rivals, Samsung and Google.
