Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, has sued Facebook user Samuel Bryan Buabeng over social media publications she says contain defamatory allegations linking her to alleged narcotics trafficking and abuse of office.

According to a writ of summons filed at the Accra High Court and seen by Citi Newsroom, the GACL MD is seeking GH¢10 million in general damages for libel, in addition to aggravated and exemplary damages.

The suit relates particularly to a publication made on September 22, 2026, on Buabeng’s publicly accessible Facebook page, Samuel Bryan Buabeng.

According to lawyers of the plaintiff, the publication featured her name and photograph alongside that of Frank Danquah, whom the post referred to as “Frank Dankwa” and described as her “favourite member of staff” and “the AVSEC supervisor who aided the drug baron.”

The post also alleged that Danquah had emptied bank accounts, with the least containing more than GH¢500,000, before concluding that “the Cocainenomy is on the right footing, with people in high places benefiting immensely.”

Opare’s lawyers contend that the publication, particularly the use of her photograph and name, created an implication that she had an improper association with Danquah and was connected to, or benefited from, alleged narcotics trafficking.

They describe the allegations as serious imputations of criminal involvement, corruption and abuse of office, which their client categorically denies and rejects.

The plaintiff’s lawyers have also issued a cease-and-desist notice, demanding that the publication and related comments described as false and defamatory be removed.

They are further demanding an unconditional retraction, an unreserved public apology and a written undertaking not to repeat the allegations.

Among the reliefs being sought by the GACL MD is a declaration that the words and photographs published on September 22 are false and defamatory.

She is also seeking an order directing Buabeng to delete the publication and remove every copy, share or reproduction of it from social media accounts, pages or websites under his control.

The suit further seeks an order requiring an unconditional retraction and unreserved public apology to be published on the same Facebook page with the same prominence as the original post and pinned for 30 consecutive days.

The GACL MD is also asking the court for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from republishing the allegedly defamatory statements or similar material.

In addition to the GH¢10 million in general damages, she is seeking aggravated and exemplary damages.

In correspondence to the defendant’s lawyers, Opare’s legal team took particular issue with the September 22 publication and the alleged implication created by the association of her name and photograph with Danquah.

The lawyers state that Danquah has been employed by GACL since September 1, 2004, but has “no personal connection” with Opare beyond their respective official roles.

They further state that Opare rejects the description of Danquah as her “favourite member of staff” and denies participating in or benefiting from any of the alleged criminal activity.

The case is now before the High Court, where the claims and the reliefs sought by the plaintiff will be determined.
