Ghana and Egypt are set to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations next year, with the Ghanaian Government calling for enhanced economic cooperation to boost trade, investment and people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Ghana at the 74th National Day celebration of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Accra, Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, said the longstanding relationship between the two countries was built on shared history, Pan-African values and mutual respect.
He noted that Ghana and Egypt had maintained strong diplomatic ties since establishing formal relations, adding that the partnership had contributed to cooperation in various sectors, including politics, culture and development.
Mr Terlabi emphasised the need for both countries to expand economic collaboration to unlock new opportunities for businesses, investors and citizens.
According to him, stronger trade and investment links would further strengthen the bond between Ghana and Egypt while supporting sustainable development in both countries.
The Deputy Minister commended Egypt’s continued engagement with Ghana and expressed the Government’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two nations.
The Egyptian National Day celebration brought together government officials, diplomats, business leaders and other stakeholders to recognise the achievements and enduring friendship between Ghana and Egypt.
The relationship between the two countries dates back to the early years of Ghana’s independence and has remained a significant part of Africa’s diplomatic cooperation.
