A senior nursing officer, Salomey Awity Baffoe, has been remanded for two weeks by the Adenta Circuit Court 1 over allegations that she operates the TikTok account, Ghana Jollof, which has been critical of government officials.
The court’s decision follows her arrest in connection with investigations into individuals allegedly linked to the social media account.
Speaking to the media, her lawyer and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, questioned the basis for her continued detention, arguing that authorities had told the court that the person behind the Ghana Jollof account is currently in the United Kingdom.
“Because you want to arrest Ghana Jollof, you have remanded her for two weeks. Meanwhile, you told the court that Ghana Jollof is in the UK,” he said.
The case has drawn attention following reports of the midnight detention of Salomey Awity Baffoe, a 40-year-old mother of three from Hansua in the Techiman Municipality.
According to reports, three persons who identified themselves as National Security operatives went to her home at about 11:30 p.m. on September 13 and allegedly took her away.
Her family reportedly struggled to establish her whereabouts after the incident, while the Bono East Regional Police Command and Regional National Security officials were said to have indicated that they had no record of the operation at the time.
