Ghana Post is undergoing a major transformation from a traditional postal operator into a digital logistics and e-commerce enabler, the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced.

The transformation forms part of the government’s broader strategy to position the postal service as an important component of Ghana’s digital economy.

Speaking during the Government’s Accountability Series, Sam George said Ghana Post was building its modern operations around courier services, express mail services, parcels, secure document delivery and last-mile logistics.

He said the transformation was intended to ensure that Ghana Post remained relevant in an economy where commerce and service delivery were increasingly shifting online.

The Minister said the growth of e-commerce required a reliable logistics system capable of connecting businesses and consumers across the country.

He noted that digitalisation was not simply about internet connectivity but also about creating the physical infrastructure needed to move goods and services efficiently.

Sam George also highlighted the work of the Ghana-India-Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT under the Ministry.

Through a UNDP-funded MSME gateway and e-commerce platform, he said, more than 350 small businesses had been enrolled, with support from 110 trained digital champions operating through business advisory centres nationwide.

The initiative, he said, was helping small businesses gain access to digital tools and markets while improving their ability to participate in e-commerce.

Sam George said the government’s digital economy agenda was therefore focused on ensuring that technology translated into tangible economic opportunities for businesses and citizens.

He said Ghana Post’s evolution was part of this wider transformation, with logistics, e-commerce and digital services becoming increasingly important to economic activity.

The Minister stressed that the government’s objective was to build a digital ecosystem in which businesses could not only connect to the internet but could also use digital platforms to market products, receive payments, access customers and deliver goods.

He said strengthening Ghana’s digital economy would require continued investment in connectivity, digital skills, artificial intelligence, e-commerce and reliable logistics infrastructure.
