The Government has begun establishing 50 Farmer Service Centres across the country under its Feed Ghana Programme to improve farmers’ access to mechanisation and agricultural extension services.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, said the initiative forms part of the government’s strategy to boost agricultural productivity, lower production costs and strengthen national food security under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr Forson disclosed that the Government has deposited GH¢551 million into an escrow account at the Bank of Ghana to establish a Letter of Credit for the procurement of 1,840 units of agricultural machinery and equipment.
According to the Finance Minister, the equipment to be acquired includes tractors, trailers, power tillers, ploughs, cultivators, seed drills, sprayers, fertiliser spreaders and combine harvesters.
He said the machinery would be deployed through the Farmer Service Centres to expand access to modern farming equipment and improve the delivery of extension services to farmers across the country.
Dr Forson noted that the investment is expected to significantly enhance farm productivity, reduce the cost of agricultural production and support the country’s efforts to achieve sustainable food security.
The Farmer Service Centres are being implemented as a key component of the Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to modernise agriculture, increase domestic food production and improve the livelihoods of farmers nationwide.
