The Government has announced plans to establish three garment factories in the Bono East, Central and Eastern regions as part of efforts to expand Ghana’s manufacturing sector, create employment and accelerate industrialisation.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said a Transaction Adviser had been engaged to support the establishment of the factories.
According to the minister, the three factories will operate on a three-shift basis and are expected to create about 27,000 direct jobs when fully operational.
Dr Forson said the Government was also working to revive several state-owned industrial enterprises by attracting private investment.
He disclosed that the Transaction Adviser had been tasked with securing strategic investors for the Komenda Sugar Factory, Northern Star Tomato Company, Akosombo Industrial Company and Volta Star Textiles.
The Finance Minister said the initiative forms part of the Government’s broader industrial transformation agenda aimed at restoring idle state assets to productive use while strengthening local manufacturing.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the affected enterprises resume operations in a manner that protects value for the State and generates sustainable employment opportunities for their host communities.
The announcement underscores the Government’s strategy of leveraging public-private partnerships to revitalise key industries, stimulate economic activity and support inclusive growth across the country.
