The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector through innovation, strategic procurement and investment in quality systems.
Addressing members of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG) during PMAG Day 2026, the Minister said the Government recognises the critical role of local pharmaceutical companies in improving healthcare delivery and ensuring access to quality medicines.
He encouraged pharmaceutical manufacturers to leverage available financing opportunities through the Ghana EXIM Bank to expand their operations, improve production standards and build globally competitive businesses.
“Government is encouraging pharmaceutical manufacturers to take advantage of financing available through the Ghana EXIM Bank to expand production, improve standards, and emerge as competitive manufacturers serving Ghana, the subregion, and beyond,” he said.
Mr Akandoh noted that strengthening domestic pharmaceutical production remains a key priority as Ghana seeks to reduce dependence on imported medicines while creating opportunities for innovation and industrial growth.
He added that improving quality systems and increasing investment in local manufacturing would position Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry to compete effectively within the African market and beyond.
The Minister’s remarks form part of broader efforts by the Government to promote a resilient healthcare system supported by a strong local pharmaceutical manufacturing base.
