The Government has reallocated GH¢400 million to procure high-occupancy buses aimed at strengthening Ghana’s public transport system and improving urban mobility across the country.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced the initiative while presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament on the authority of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the Finance Minister, the investment forms part of the Government’s commitment to providing Ghanaians with safe, reliable and affordable public transportation while addressing growing demand on major transport corridors.
The new buses will be added to the fleets of state-owned transport operators, including Metro Mass Transit and the State Transport Company (STC).
Dr Forson said the intervention is expected to expand public transport capacity on busy urban and intercity routes, where passenger demand continues to rise.
He noted that the additional buses would help reduce long queues at transport terminals during peak periods and provide commuters with a dependable alternative to private vehicle use.
The Finance Minister said the measure is intended to improve the efficiency of public transport services, ease pressure on existing fleets and support the Government’s broader efforts to enhance mobility and accessibility across the country.
The allocation forms part of measures outlined in the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review to strengthen public service delivery and improve transport infrastructure for the benefit of Ghanaians.
