President John Dramani Mahama has announced changes to his ministerial team, nominating two Members of Parliament for ministerial positions and reassigning two serving ministers to new portfolios.
In a statement dated Friday, August 7, 2026, the President, acting in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, submitted the names of the nominees to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.
Under the new nominations, Klottey Korle MP, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
She is expected to take over the portfolio previously held by the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in August 2025.
The President has also nominated Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has reassigned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, to head the Ministry of Defence.
The current Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has also been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The changes are expected to take effect after Parliament completes the approval process for the newly nominated ministers.
The statement announcing the reshuffle was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, who is the spokesperson to the president and minister for government communications.
