Meta Platforms has launched a new business unit focused on expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among enterprises, appointing MongoDB president and CEO Chirantan Desai to lead the initiative.
Desai will join the newly established Meta Enterprise Platform as chief enterprise platform officer, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg said Desai’s “track record of building full-stack software and delivering results in AI, infrastructure, business applications and security” made him suited to lead the new unit.
Meta Enterprise Platform is being positioned as “the next major pillar of our business”, with the company planning to bring its AI technologies and infrastructure to businesses and developers.
The unit will initially focus on making Meta’s technology stack available to enterprises, including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code.
Zuckerberg said Meta would draw on capabilities including advanced AI models, agents, large-scale infrastructure and its experience working with businesses.
Desai said Meta’s ambition was to establish the platform as “the place enterprises come to scale their businesses”.
Before joining Meta, Desai served as president and CEO of MongoDB. He previously led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent eight years at ServiceNow, including a stint as president and chief operating officer.
MongoDB has begun searching for Desai’s replacement and appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim boss.
