The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has partnered Digital Policy Alert and the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade to strengthen Ghana’s digital governance, regulatory coordination and engagement in global digital trade.
The partnership was announced at a high-level stakeholder workshop in Accra, which brought together representatives from government ministries and agencies, academia, industry, civil society and development partners.
Opening the workshop on behalf of the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, the Director of the Digital Technology Directorate, Bishop Dr Samuel Antwi-Gyekyi, said the collaboration would support evidence-based policymaking and help Ghana align its digital regulatory framework with international best practices.
He said Digital Policy Alert’s digital policy intelligence platform and artificial intelligence-assisted regulatory analysis tools would provide useful resources for monitoring global policy developments and strengthening Ghana’s participation in regional and international digital trade discussions.
These include engagements under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Protocol on Digital Trade and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Bishop Dr Antwi-Gyekyi said Ghana’s digital transformation agenda was anchored on initiatives including the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, improved data governance and the One Million Coders Programme.
He stressed that the country’s digital transformation could not be achieved by government alone, calling for stronger collaboration among the public sector, industry, academia, entrepreneurs and development partners.
According to him, such collaboration was necessary to translate digital policies into jobs, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
The workshop also provided participants with practical knowledge on tracking global digital policy developments, benchmarking Ghana’s regulatory framework against international standards and using technology to improve policymaking.
The Ministry welcomed Digital Policy Alert’s expansion into Ghana and expressed appreciation to the organisation, the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade and other stakeholders for their partnership.
It reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient, inclusive and globally competitive digital economy through sustained collaboration and coordinated digital policy development.
