MoMo Fintech Lab takes innovation across Ghana with zonal Bootcamps and Hackathon Pitches

The 2026 MoMo Fintech Lab has entered its zonal bootcamp and hackathon pitch phase after receiving more than 1,700 entries from across Ghana, with 12 innovators expected to advance to the next stage of the programme.

‎‎The initiative, which aims to help innovators develop market-ready financial technology solutions, began its zonal activities in Tamale from 19 to 23 October. It will continue in Kumasi from 26 to 30 October before concluding in Accra from 2 to 6 November 2026.

‎‎During the bootcamps, shortlisted participants will receive practical training and mentorship, refine their ideas, develop prototypes and pitch their solutions before expert panels.

‎‎According to the programme organisers, the entries reflect different innovation priorities across the country, with agriculture-focused financial technology solutions leading in the Northern Zone, small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) and merchant solutions dominating the Middle Zone, and payment innovations standing out in the Southern Zone.

‎‎Northern Zone proposals focus on supporting farmers, strengthening agricultural value chains and expanding access to financial services. In the Middle Zone, innovators are developing solutions to improve business operations, facilitate digital payments and support business growth.

‎‎Meanwhile, entries from the Southern Zone place greater emphasis on making digital transactions simpler, faster and more accessible.

‎‎Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, said the number and diversity of entries demonstrated Ghana’s potential to develop solutions to its economic challenges.

‎‎“More than 1,700 entries sends a powerful message: Ghana has the talent and ambition to build solutions for its most pressing challenges,” he said.

‎‎He added that the programme sought to help innovators transform their ideas into scalable solutions capable of creating meaningful impact.

‎‎Beyond the competition, the MoMo Fintech Lab will equip participants with technical, leadership and commercial skills while connecting them with mentors and industry players to support the development and scaling of promising innovations.

‎‎The programme will culminate in a National Demo Day on 3 December 2026, when finalists will showcase their solutions and compete for cash awards of up to GHS100,000, digital devices and further support to advance their innovations.

‎‎The MoMo Fintech Lab is organised in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, with support from GCB Bank, Hubtel, appsNmobile, Zenith Bank, First National Bank, Blue Penguin, Korba, Fidelity Bank, Afrifanom (VaMiJo) and JUMO.
