MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Ghana’s digital economy with a $1 billion investment aimed at expanding digital infrastructure and making high-quality home internet a key pillar of the country’s future.

Speaking during a discussion on MTN’s home broadband strategy, Chief Home Officer Richard Acheampong said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in Ghana’s digital future and aligns with MTN Group’s MCM 2030 strategy, which prioritises connectivity, internet services and infrastructure.

According to him, the COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally changed how people live, work and learn, making the home the new centre for education, business, entertainment and remote work.

“The future of our business is largely going to be determined by how much we are able to do in the home,” Acheampong stated.

He explained that MTN’s investment goes far beyond laying fibre cables, saying significant resources are being channelled into digital technologies, software platforms and intelligent infrastructure that deliver seamless internet experiences.

“Our commitment is really a statement of belief in Ghana’s digital economy and in the future of our country,” he noted.

Acheampong said the objective is to ensure customers enjoy uninterrupted connectivity whether they are streaming Netflix, participating in online meetings, monitoring security cameras or running businesses from home.

He stressed that the investment is designed to eliminate frustrating internet interruptions and deliver reliable broadband capable of supporting multiple connected devices simultaneously.

The MTN executive added that digital infrastructure has become as essential as electricity and water in today’s economy.

He noted that the company sees itself as a key enabler of Ghana’s digital transformation and is working closely with government and other stakeholders to build infrastructure capable of supporting future technologies, including smart homes and digital businesses.

Acheampong said the investment will ultimately empower households, entrepreneurs and students by providing the reliable connectivity needed to participate fully in the digital economy.
