Police arrest three suspects over shooting incident involving former MP Adwoa Safo

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with a shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

‎According to a police statement, Israel Kwadwo Safo subsequently reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters and was later handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

‎‎Police said a search conducted on the suspect’s vehicle and residence at Kwabenya led to the discovery of a cache of ammunition and firearms.

‎The items retrieved included 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of 40 calibre ammunition, several loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols. Investigators indicated that one of the pistols is legally registered in the suspect’s name.

‎‎Further investigations by the Police resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, who are also believed to be connected to the case.

‎‎The three suspects are currently in Police custody and are assisting investigators as enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continue.

‎‎The Police Service has confirmed that all three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on 23 June 2026.

‎‎Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
