Tesla Inc has introduced a new six-seat version of its popular Model Y in the United States and Puerto Rico, expanding its electric vehicle line-up with a more spacious, family-oriented configuration.

‎The new Model Y Long Wheelbase features a three-row layout with six seats, including captain seats in the second row, the company announced in a post on X on Thursday.

‎Powered by an electric drivetrain, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds and offers an estimated driving range of up to 325 miles on a single charge.

‎The cabin has been designed with a strong emphasis on passenger comfort. The front seats are heated and ventilated and feature powered thigh cushions. The second-row captain seats also offer heating and ventilation, along with powered armrests and one-touch fold functionality. Passengers in the third row benefit from heated seats with power recline, one-touch folding and integrated child seat anchors.

‎Tesla said the vehicle provides up to 89 cubic feet of luggage space, with enough room in the rear cargo area for one 28-inch suitcase and one 20-inch suitcase for each of the six occupants. An additional 20-inch suitcase can be stored in the front trunk.

‎‎The company has also introduced a range of refinements aimed at improving ride quality and cabin comfort. These include upgraded acoustic glass, an enhanced suspension system to minimise road noise, adaptive damping and staggered tyres. A larger tailgate and bigger windows have also been incorporated to improve visibility and practicality.

‎Inside, the Model Y Long Wheelbase is equipped with a 16-inch touchscreen for front occupants and an additional 8-inch touchscreen for second-row passengers. The vehicle also features a 19-speaker premium audio system.

‎Charging capabilities have been enhanced with upgraded 50-watt wireless charging pads featuring active cooling for front-seat occupants, while USB charging ports are available for passengers in all other seating positions.

‎The new model comes equipped with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system and integrated Grok artificial intelligence technology. Safety enhancements include optimised seat belts and side airbags for passengers in both the second and third rows.

‎The launch marks Tesla’s latest effort to broaden the appeal of the Model Y by offering greater passenger capacity, enhanced comfort and advanced technology for families and long-distance travellers.
