Ghana generated US$4.34 billion in tourism revenue in 2025 as international tourist arrivals increased to 1,306,962, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has disclosed.
The figure represents an increase from the 1,288,804 international tourist arrivals recorded in 2024, underscoring continued growth in Ghana’s tourism sector.
Speaking as part of the Government Accountability Series, Ms Gomashie said domestic tourism also recorded a 7 per cent increase, rising from 1.68 million visits in 2024 to 1.79 million in 2025.
The Minister said the 10 most visited tourist attractions in the country accounted for 1,377,588 visitors in 2025, representing about 77 per cent of all domestic tourism site visits.
The attractions included the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Kakum National Park, Bonsu Arboretum/Eco Park, Cape Coast Castle, Manhyia Palace, Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve and Aburi Botanical Gardens.
Ms Gomashie also outlined measures being implemented to preserve and reposition Ghana’s key tourism and heritage assets.
She said the Nationalism Park had been reopened following the resolution of longstanding power challenges, while the Tano Boase Sacred Grove Project had been completed.
The Ministry has also strengthened governance and management structures at a number of heritage sites, including the Anomabu Garden of Return and the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm.
As part of efforts to broaden tourism activities and support the Government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda, the Ministry launched “Accra by Night”, a structured night tourism product aimed at extending tourism activities beyond traditional daytime hours.
The initiative is expected to create additional opportunities for restaurants, artists, transport operators and small businesses while contributing to the growth of Ghana’s night-time economy.
On cultural development, Ms Gomashie announced that three additional standardised orthographies for Ghanaian languages would be launched before the end of the year.
She said the initiative was consistent with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision and the Government’s manifesto commitments to promote Ghanaian culture and strengthen the country’s cultural identity.
The Minister’s presentation forms part of the Government Accountability Series, through which ministers provide updates on their stewardship, programmes and achievements while keeping the public informed about progress in key sectors.
