UNICEF, Gender Ministry reaffirm commitment to child protection and social development

‎The UNICEF Representative in Ghana, Mr Osama Makkawi Khogali, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, PhD to discuss ongoing collaboration aimed at strengthening child protection and social development interventions across the country.

‎‎The meeting formed part of Mr Khogali’s final engagements as he prepares to conclude his tenure in Ghana. During the discussions, he expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation received from the Ministry and other development partners throughout his time in the country.

‎‎Mr Khogali noted that he was undertaking a series of appreciation visits and meetings with key stakeholders as part of the process of winding up his assignment.

‎He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration in advancing programmes that improve the lives of children and vulnerable populations, stressing that the progress achieved over the years had been made possible through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to development.

‎‎He further underscored the need to maintain momentum in implementing initiatives that promote child welfare, social inclusion and protection for vulnerable groups.

‎‎For her part, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended UNICEF for its unwavering support to the Ministry and its significant contribution to national efforts in child protection, social welfare and development programming.

‎‎The Minister highlighted the importance of building on existing interventions to further strengthen systems that safeguard the rights and well-being of children across Ghana. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with UNICEF and other partners to address challenges affecting children and families while promoting inclusive and sustainable social protection measures.

‎‎The two parties also reviewed ongoing programmes and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas critical to child development and social welfare.

‎The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with both Dr Naa Momo Lartey and Mr Khogali expressing appreciation for the strong and productive partnership that has existed between the Ministry and UNICEF over the years, and reaffirming their commitment to advancing the welfare of children and vulnerable communities in Ghana.
