The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has debunked allegations it is going to auction some vehicles on December 28, 2024.
A circular labelled “MEDIA RELEASE” and dated December 3, 2024 and purportedly signed by the Commissioner General of GRA, Julie Essiam, went viral on social media announcing that GRA was about to auction vehicles at one of its port sites in Accra on December 28, 2024.
The document then urged interested persons register and pay a fee of GHS2,500 to a mobile wallet to be provided by the Customs Division of GRA. Then registered candidates will be given a QR Code, which will be scanned at the entrance of the port on the day of the auction.
But in a statement, GRA described the document as “FAKE” and completely debunked the allegation that it was about to do any vehicles auction.
The statement said “The fake media release bears the signature of the former Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah but has the name of the current Commissioner General, Madam Julie Essiam.”
It explained that there are standard procedures for the auction of vehicles and goods by the Customs Division of GRA, adding that the process of auction of vehicles does not involve payment of a registration fee, as the fake circular suggested.
GRA therefore cautioned the public NOT to make payment to any person or group of
persons via any means provided in the fake media release, adding that for accurate and reliable information, “please contact the GRA directly through the following:

GRA also urged the public to be vigilant and verify information before participating in any GRA auction.
