The National Communications Authority (NCA) has provided some clarification on the ongoing banter between the Minister and Multichoice over subscription prices, saying that the prices will be determined after the 14-day stakeholder meeting as directed by the Minister.
At a recent press conference, Communications Minister Sam George announced that Multichoice has finally caved in and agreed to reduce DSTV subscription prices. But Multichoice issues a counter statement and said that it had not agreed to reduce prices but was committed to the stakeholder meeting that will determine what happens after 14 days.
The Minister came back and described Multichoice’s response as disrespectful to Ghanaians, insisting that they had told him earlier of their readiness to reduce prices.
Following this unhealthy banter, several Ghanaians took to social media and suggested that the Minister should allow the regulator to do its work, instead of putting out statement for Multichoice to deny. Indeed this is the second time Multichoice has debunked something the minister said.
Now the regular NCA has come out finally and said that it has received the response of Multichoice Ghana to the notice of intention to suspend their authorisation and request for their pricing model.
“While the Authority reviews their submission, there have been further engagements with Multichoice Ghana regarding its public statement dated, 5th September 2025 and the following clarifications have been obtained:
1. Multichoice Ghana agrees with the directive from the Honourable Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations for the establishment of a Stakeholder Committee to evaluate DSTV pricing in Ghana and that they intend to fully participate in this work.
2. The outcome of the Stakeholder Committee would be determined at the end of its work.
3. MultiChoice has confirmed that it will respect due process and the laws of Ghana and its people.
The first meeting of the Stakeholder Committee shall be held on Monday, 8th September, 2025.
The NCA said it will provide further updates on this matter in due course.
