Nanatunde Davies, Risk and Compliance Senior Manager at MobileMoney Fintech LTD, has called on Africans to take full ownership of their development story, urging communicators, businesses and institutions to project the continent’s achievements with confidence, authenticity and purpose.
Speaking at the inaugural Communicating Africa Summit in Accra, she said Africa’s transformation must be told by Africans themselves, highlighting innovations such as mobile money as clear evidence that the continent is already shaping global conversations through home-grown solutions.
Nanatunde stressed that Africa has moved beyond seeking validation, noting that its progress is already visible in the everyday impact of digital financial services, which have significantly advanced financial inclusion across communities.
She pointed to mobile money as a standout example of African innovation, explaining that it has shifted financial services from an aspiration into a practical, widely used tool that enables millions of people to send, receive, save and transact securely.
According to her, the technology has also strengthened businesses by reducing reliance on cash-based systems and enabling smoother, more efficient digital transactions that improve access to economic opportunities.
Nanatunde said this transformation demonstrates that Africa is not waiting to be defined by external narratives but is actively building systems and solutions that reflect its realities and ambitions.
She further urged stakeholders in communication and media to amplify authentic African success stories, arguing that such narratives are essential for reshaping global perceptions and reinforcing the continent’s growing economic and technological relevance.
Concluding her remarks, she emphasised that Africa’s progress is already being written on the continent and must be told with clarity and confidence by Africans themselves.
