The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has chaired a high-level technical review meeting with heads of agencies under the ministry as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s digital legislative framework.
The meeting, held in Accra, brought together chief executives of key information and communications technology (ICT) agencies, alongside technical and legal officers who contributed to the development of a series of draft bills currently under consideration.
Also participating in the session were legal consultants engaged by the ministry and representatives of IMANI Ghana, who have been supporting the review process.
According to the ministry, the minister has completed a review of all ten Cabinet memoranda submitted to him on the various draft bills. The meeting was convened to discuss the findings of that review and examine the current versions of the proposed legislation with stakeholders.
The draft bills are expected to play a significant role in shaping Ghana’s legal and regulatory environment in areas such as digital technology, cybersecurity and data protection.
IMANI Ghana, a public policy think tank, assisted with the current review and is providing independent policy perspectives during the discussions.
Officials said the engagement reflects the ministry’s commitment to broad stakeholder consultation and evidence-based policymaking as the country advances its digital transformation agenda.
The review process is expected to contribute to the development of robust legislation capable of supporting innovation, enhancing cybersecurity resilience and safeguarding personal data in an increasingly digital economy.
The Ministry for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has identified legislative reform as a key pillar in its efforts to build a secure, inclusive and globally competitive digital ecosystem for Ghana.
