NDPC meets young innovators in Accra

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has held discussions with a young Ghanaian software developer, Mr Isaac Nsiah, who presented two artificial intelligence (AI)-driven digital solutions designed to strengthen citizen engagement and improve public service delivery in Ghana.

‎‎Mr Nsiah, Lead Innovator of Monkix Ci, met with officials of the Commission after expressing interest in the ongoing development of Ghana’s Consolidated National Development Plan. Inspired by media reports and the regional consultations conducted by the NDPC across all 16 regions between February and March 2026, he developed innovative digital platforms aimed at supporting a more inclusive and citizen-centred planning process.

‎‎The engagement, held under the theme “Building Smarter Citizen Participation for National Development,” provided an opportunity for Mr Nsiah to showcase two technology-based solutions which he believes could contribute to national development efforts.

‎‎The first platform, known as HerCivic Watch, is an AI-enabled civic engagement tool that allows citizens to report location-specific concerns, provide feedback on community development issues and generate real-time data to support planning, monitoring and decision-making processes.

‎‎According to Mr Nsiah, the platform is intended not only to facilitate public reporting but also to promote active citizenship, civic responsibility and community participation. The concept aligns with the NDPC’s “New Values, New Society” initiative, which seeks to encourage behavioural change as a key driver of sustainable national development.

‎‎The second innovation, Akoma, is a digital health platform designed to give citizens greater control over their personal health records. The system aims to improve access to health information and enable individuals to manage their medical records more effectively.

‎Discussions during the meeting centred on the practical application of the proposed solutions, their relevance to national development objectives and opportunities for integration with existing government systems and data platforms. Particular attention was given to the potential of HerCivic Watch to strengthen civic participation and reinforce values that support national progress.

‎‎The Commission commended Mr Nsiah for his creativity, initiative and commitment to using technology to address national development challenges. Officials also provided technical guidance on how the platforms could be refined to better align with institutional requirements and operational realities.

‎‎As part of the next steps, the NDPC announced that a technical team will engage further with Mr Nsiah and his team to refine the concepts and explore avenues for integrating the innovations into existing national planning and information systems.

‎The engagement underscores the Commission’s commitment to promoting innovation, harnessing digital technology for development and supporting home-grown solutions that contribute to Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
