Anthropic has unveiled a new AI-powered assistant for Salesforce’s Slack platform, marking a further step in its drive to strengthen its position in the fast-growing enterprise AI market.
The tool, known as Claude Tag, enables users to bring Anthropic’s AI agent directly into Slack conversations by simply typing “@Claude”. Once summoned, the assistant can review discussions, help break down tasks, and identify relevant updates from across an organisation, even without direct prompts.
Available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, the feature is designed to maintain context over time, allowing it to provide more informed and continuous support. Anthropic has also indicated plans to extend the capability to additional platforms in the near future.
The launch builds on increasing demand from businesses for Anthropic’s AI products, a trend that has contributed to the company’s valuation reaching US$965 billion, placing it ahead of OpenAI. Earlier this month, Anthropic confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO).
To address concerns around privacy and governance, Anthropic said administrators will have granular control over the data sources and tools Claude Tag can access within individual Slack channels.
Commenting on the development, Slack General Manager Rob Seaman described the feature as a move towards “multiplayer AI”, noting that Claude Tag operates openly within team discussions rather than through private interactions.
Cat Wu, Anthropic’s Head of Product for Claude Code, said the technology’s existing capabilities have been enhanced by a more natural way of interacting with the AI. She explained that being able to tag the assistant in the same manner as a colleague makes the experience significantly more intuitive and useful.
Wu cited her own use of Claude Tag, explaining that she has connected it to her Gmail account so that it can monitor incoming messages, identify communications from important contacts, and alert her through Slack, where she is more likely to respond quickly.
Anthropic plans to roll out similar functionality across other workplace platforms in the coming weeks as it continues to expand its enterprise AI offering.
