The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has officially introduced Mr Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah as the new Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), succeeding Dr Mark-Oliver Kevor.
Speaking during the introduction ceremony, the Minister praised Dr Kevor for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the Agency’s transformation. He highlighted Dr Kevor’s role in strengthening the National Data Centre and advancing key digital government initiatives during his tenure.
Mr George said the new Director-General assumes office at a critical time as the Government prepares to implement far-reaching reforms across Ghana’s digital sector.
He disclosed that the proposed NITA Act, once approved by Parliament, would establish a stronger governance and regulatory framework by separating the Agency’s regulatory and commercial functions. According to the Minister, the reforms are intended to enhance NITA’s effectiveness as the country’s digital regulator.
The Minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the governance of Ghana’s national digital infrastructure. He announced that all payments relating to infrastructure managed by NITA would henceforth be made directly to the Agency to safeguard public assets, improve accountability and enhance operational efficiency.
Mr George further stressed the importance of effective regulation in promoting innovation while protecting Ghana’s growing digital and financial technology ecosystem.
Welcoming the new Director-General, the Minister described Mr Amoah-Yeboah as an experienced technology professional with more than a decade of expertise in the information technology sector, including extensive involvement in major government digital transformation projects.
He urged the new Director-General to promote teamwork, maintain an open-door leadership approach and build on the Agency’s achievements as it evolves into a stronger and more effective regulator.
Board Chair of NITA, Ms Estelle Akofio-Sowah, expressed confidence in Mr Amoah-Yeboah’s ability to lead the Agency through its next phase of growth. She assured him of the Board’s full support and encouraged him to leverage the expertise of NITA’s management and staff to advance Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr Amoah-Yeboah thanked the Minister and the Government for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work closely with the Board, management and staff to build on NITA’s achievements and deliver the Government’s vision of a secure, innovative and digitally inclusive public service.
