The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has begun a comprehensive rebasing of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI), with both exercises expected to be completed by June 2027, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Finance Minister said the rebasing exercise forms part of government’s efforts to ensure that Ghana’s economic data accurately reflects the structure and performance of the economy.

‎He explained that the GDP rebasing will incorporate emerging sectors that have become increasingly significant contributors to national output but are not fully captured under the current base year.

‎According to Dr Forson, the exercise will include sectors such as financial technology (fintech), the creative industries, construction, real estate and technology.

‎He added that, for the first time, the rebasing process will also introduce regional GDP estimates, providing policymakers and investors with a clearer picture of economic activity across the country’s regions.

‎The Minister said the Ghana Statistical Service has already commenced work on both the GDP and CPI rebasing exercises, with completion scheduled for June 2027.

‎The updated statistical measures are expected to improve the accuracy of national accounts, strengthen economic planning and support evidence-based policymaking.
