The Ministry of Transport has received a report containing recommendations aimed at addressing key challenges confronting Ghana’s transport sector, including congestion, transport management and sustainable financing.
The report was presented following a stakeholder breakfast meeting organised by Graphic Communications Group Limited and Stanbic Bank Ghana in February 2026 as a thought-leadership and stakeholder engagement platform.
The meeting brought together transport-sector experts and stakeholders to examine practical measures for improving Ghana’s transport system, with discussions focusing on traffic congestion, alternative transport systems, sustainable financing and the contribution of transport to economic development.
The report includes recommendations on transport policy, stakeholder engagement and sustainable funding, with emphasis on innovative financing as a critical tool for translating transport plans into infrastructure and improved services.
Receiving the report, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport, William Kartey, welcomed the initiative and said the recommendations would contribute to the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen transport policy.
Mr Kartey also underscored the importance of private-sector capital and partnerships in developing modern and efficient transport systems to meet the needs of Ghana’s rapidly growing urban centres.
He cited the need for improved rail, bus and other mass-transit systems as part of efforts to build a more sustainable transport network.
The engagement reflects growing calls for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to mobilise the resources and expertise required to address Ghana’s transport infrastructure and mobility challenges.
The Ministry is expected to consider the recommendations as part of its broader transport policy and development efforts.
