Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, the Wall Street Journal has reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The deal comes as Anthropic seeks additional cloud capacity after encountering a supply shortage earlier this year as demand for its products increased.
Under the arrangement, Lambda will use a data centre being developed by bitcoin miner and data-centre developer Hut 8 in Nueces County, Texas, to install chips purchased from Nvidia, according to the report.
Nvidia signed an agreement with Hut 8 several weeks ago to secure capacity at the facility. Nvidia is also an investor in Lambda.
The amount Lambda will pay Nvidia to access the data-centre space was not immediately clear.
The agreement adds to Anthropic’s efforts to secure computing capacity for its artificial intelligence products. Earlier this month, the AI developer signed a $45 billion deal with Nscale, another cloud provider backed by Nvidia, Bloomberg reported in August.
Anthropic’s agreement with Lambda therefore follows a series of major cloud-capacity arrangements as the company works to address the shortage that affected its computing resources earlier this year.
