CEO of AT Ghana, Leo Skarlatos, has described Archie Hesse as a “true digital finance icon” as Archie bows out honourably as CEO of Ghana Interbank Payments and Settlements Systems (GhIPSS) after 18 years of stellar performance and dedicated service to Ghana.
Archie laid down his tool as GhIPSS boss on Republic Day, July 1, 2025, and fintech industry players have since been paying very glowing tribute to him for his immense impact that has shaped how Ghanaians transact today.
I a heartfelt tribute copied to Techfocus24, Leo described Archie as an extraordinary visionary whose legacy is institutional and transformational, which has set a gold standard for what a national payment infrastructure should be.
He noted that AT Ghana, and particularly AT Money has benefitted immensely from Archie’s commitment to inclusivity and a level playing field, adding that “his genuine belief that every Ghanaian deserves a place in the formal financial ecosystem have helped shape our journey as a mobile financial services provider.”

It is with deep admiration and profound respect that AT joins the financial services and fintech community to honour a visionary, a pioneer, and an extraordinary leader — Mr. Archie Hesse, as he bows out as Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS).
Mr. Hesse’s legacy is not only institutional — it is transformational. Over more than a decade of dedicated service, he has redefined the payments landscape in Ghana and set the gold standard for what a national payment infrastructure should be. Under his leadership, GhIPSS became synonymous with innovation, inclusivity, and digital trust — pillars that now form the very foundation of modern financial services in our country.
Through his relentless drive, we witnessed the rollout of groundbreaking systems such as GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP), e-zwich, Mobile Money Interoperability (MMI), and ACH Direct Credit/Debit systems, which have made Ghana a continental benchmark in interoperable, real-time payments. These platforms have empowered millions — from high-end corporates to informal market women — to transact seamlessly and securely.
At AT , we have directly benefited from Mr. Hesse’s inclusive approach to payment innovation. His vision for a level playing field, his unwavering collaboration with Fintechs and EMIs, and his genuine belief that every Ghanaian deserves a place in the formal financial ecosystem have helped shape our journey as a mobile financial services provider. We are proud to say that his leadership fostered the environment that allowed AT Money to dream boldly and execute confidently.
Beyond systems and policies, Mr. Hesse led with integrity, humility, and national interest at heart. He was a bridge between banks and fintechs, between tradition and transformation — always urging us to look ahead, to do more, and to do better for the people of Ghana.
As he retires from active duty, we at AT extend our gratitude, respect, and best wishes to Mr. Hesse. Though he leaves office, his fingerprints remain indelibly stamped on every transaction that passes through Ghana’s payment rails today.
May his next chapter be as impactful and inspiring as the legacy he leaves behind. We salute you, Mr. Archie Hesse — a true digital finance icon.
