The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has reaffirmed its commitment to employee welfare and workplace wellbeing through a staff sensitisation programme aimed at promoting mental health awareness and fostering a healthier working environment.

‎Held under the theme, “Building a Healthier Workplace through Mental Health Awareness and Staff Sensitisation,” the programme formed part of the Authority’s broader efforts to create a supportive, productive and emotionally healthy workplace for its employees.

‎‎The event brought together management and staff for an interactive discussion on mental health, workplace wellbeing and the importance of cultivating a positive organisational culture.

‎The initiative highlighted the Authority’s recognition of the critical role employee wellbeing plays in enhancing productivity, institutional growth and effective service delivery.

‎‎Delivering remarks on behalf of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr Musah Sibiri Hamidu, the Director of Business Development and Research, Mr Lawrence Oei-Boateng, underscored the need for organisations to prioritise mental health in the workplace.

‎According to him, the demands of modern work environments require deliberate efforts to create spaces that encourage openness, emotional support and overall staff wellness.

‎‎“As organisations strive to achieve their objectives, it is equally important to ensure that employees have access to the support systems and resources necessary to maintain their mental and emotional wellbeing,” he noted.

‎‎A key highlight of the programme was a presentation by Dr Yaw Amankwah Arthur of the Mental Health Authority, who delivered a lecture on “Workplace Toxicity and Its Impact on Employee Wellbeing and Organisational Productivity.”

‎Dr Arthur educated participants on the signs and causes of toxic workplace environments, while outlining practical strategies for addressing and overcoming challenges that may negatively affect employee morale and performance.

‎‎The session also featured self-assessment exercises that enabled staff to evaluate their emotional wellbeing, stress levels and behavioural patterns within the workplace.

‎‎The exercise encouraged self-reflection and heightened awareness of the importance of seeking support when necessary, while promoting personal responsibility in maintaining a healthy and respectful work environment.

‎The Authority said the programme forms part of its ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of care, inclusiveness and staff wellbeing.

‎It believes such initiatives are essential in building a resilient, motivated and productive workforce capable of driving its mandate and supporting national economic development.

‎Through sustained investment in employee welfare programmes, the Authority continues to strengthen its workplace culture and promote the wellbeing of its staff.
