Google has unveiled three new artificial intelligence (AI) models, including its most advanced Flash model to date and a cybersecurity-focused system, as competition in the global AI market continues to intensify.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes ahead of parent company Alphabet’s quarterly earnings and underscores Google’s efforts to strengthen its position against rivals OpenAI and Anthropic in the fast-evolving generative AI industry.
Leading the new releases is Gemini 3.6 Flash, which Google said offers stronger performance than its predecessor across a range of tasks, including software coding and financial analysis, while reducing operating costs for developers.
The company also introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, a model specifically designed to identify and help remediate software security vulnerabilities more efficiently. In addition, Google launched Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, a lightweight model intended to power AI agents and autonomous digital assistants where speed and cost efficiency are priorities.
Google said the new Flash models have been developed to strike a balance between performance, speed and affordability, enabling developers to access advanced AI capabilities without the higher costs associated with larger models.
The latest launches reflect Google’s growing emphasis on cybersecurity, an area that has become increasingly important as AI systems are deployed to strengthen software security. OpenAI and Anthropic have also recently introduced advanced AI models capable of identifying software vulnerabilities and supporting cybersecurity researchers.
The announcements come at a time of heightened competition across the AI sector. Chinese developers have continued to gain momentum, with Moonshot AI recently limiting new subscriptions and application programming interface (API) access for its Kimi K3 model after a surge in demand placed pressure on its computing infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Alibaba has indicated that its forthcoming Qwen 3.8 Max model is expected to rank among the industry’s highest-performing AI systems, adding further competitive pressure to the global AI race.
Google also confirmed that its flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro model remains in testing. Although the company had previously indicated that the model would be launched in June, it said the system will only be made widely available once it is fully ready for release.
