The 2026 Annual Health Training Institutions Conference has concluded in Kumasi with a call on principals and directors of health training institutions to implement key resolutions aimed at improving the quality of health professional education and strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director for Human Resource for Health Development at the Ministry of Health, Fred Mensah Achampong, urged heads of institutions to comply strictly with admission quotas approved by the Ministry. He said adherence to the quotas was critical to maintaining training standards, supporting effective health workforce planning and preserving the integrity of the admissions process.
Mr Achampong also encouraged institutions to strengthen teaching and learning through competency-based education. He urged them to take full advantage of the newly introduced specialist nursing programmes to produce highly skilled professionals capable of responding to the country’s evolving healthcare needs.
He further called on participants to translate the knowledge and decisions from the three-day conference into practical actions within their respective institutions. According to him, sustained commitment to excellence, accountability and compliance with established policies would help produce a competent, ethical and globally competitive health workforce.
The conference brought together officials from the Ministry of Health, principals and directors of Health Training Institutions, representatives of regulatory councils, mentoring universities and development partners to deliberate on strategies for improving health professional education in Ghana.
Participants are expected to implement the resolutions reached during the conference to enhance the quality of training and contribute to a stronger and more resilient healthcare system.
